Head of the Syrian Ministry of Interior Mohammad al-Shaar met with Iraqi Prime Minister Haidar al-Abadi in Baghdad where they discussed the possibility of reopening the Al-Qaim border crossing.
They’ve also discussed a number of security, terrorism and coordination issues at the meeting. Both states are interested in reopening this border crossing as the situation in that area is more or less stable.
Iraqi forces have liberated Al-Qaim checkpoint from Islamic State in November 2017. All the Iraqi-Syrian border was taken under control within a month.
