The leaders of Russia and Turkey have met in the black sea resort of Sochi to discuss bilateral and regional issues including Syria. Russian President Vladimir Putin said that the efforts jointly made by Russia, Iran and Turkey to settle the Syrian crisis ‘are paying off.’
“I would like to note with satisfaction that our joint work with Turkey and Iran as guarantors of the ‘Astana process’ continues to yield concrete results…The level of violence has certainly decreased and favorable conditions are being created for promoting intra-Syrian dialogue under the auspices of the UN,” Putin said according to RT report.
President Recep Tayyip Erdogan later referred to last week’s affirmation by Presidents Trump and Putin of de-escalation zones in Syria which have helped reduce the fighting.
“We appreciate the joint statement that was made in Vietnam by Mr. Putin and Mr. Trump. And I am pleased to see that at the same time the relations between Turkey and Russia have reached a new, strong level.
I especially care about the bilateral steps that Russia and Turkey have taken in area of our defence industries.”
