South Korea has contributed US$1.5 million to the World Food Programme’s efforts to help Syrian refugees in Iraq, South Korea’s Yonhap news agency reported the UN organisation’s Seoul office as saying Friday.

The donation is aimed at helping around 30,000 refugees currently taking shelter in the Kurdistan area of Iraq, it said.

“The support granted this time will be used to provide food to feed the most vulnerable refugees for about two months,” the office said in a press release.

Since 2014, the Seoul government has contributed US$4.8 million to the WFP\’s efforts to support Syrian refugees in Iraq.
