Syria‘s opposition delegates at the Geneva peace talks have been receiving help from the German government, according to sources at the Foreign Ministry in Berlin.
Germany continues to lend its logistical and organizational support in the current round of negotiations that began on Thursday.
Staffers and experts from the German government‘s development agency GIZ are providing offices and working materials for the opposition in Geneva.
GIZ also helps organize opposition press conferences.
While the Syrian government delegation can make use of the Syrian mission to the United Nations in Geneva, the opposition has no access to such services and infrastructure.
“We want to do our part to reduce this imbalance,” a German source said.
Germany shares the costs for this effort with several countries.
