The UN began on Thursday preparatory meetings with participants in the discussions on Syrian crisis. Substantive discussions are to be opened on March 24 when the UN Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura returns to Geneva as Deputy Special Envoy Ramzy Ezzeldin Ramzy said.
“Mistura will be here tonight, we have started preliminary discussions with the government, and I will later meet with other groups to prepare the ground for tomorrow.” The meeting (with the delegation of Damascus) was useful, we expect to start substantive discussions tomorrow,” he said.
It is expected that Ramzi will hold a meeting with the delegation of the Supreme Committee for the negotiations of the opposition of Syria at 12:00 local time.
